“giving the past a future”

Bloxwich Research and Metal Detector Club

Welcome to https://brmdc.co.uk – home of the Bloxwich Research and Metal Detector Club, one of the Midlands largest and most successful metal detecting clubs.

From our base in Bloxwich our 120 or so members actively search land across the West Midlands and Staffordshire for historical artefacts and coinage on our club digs which take place every Sunday and Wednesday (weather permitting of course). We also provide a free recovery service for lost items of value.

We also get together socially on the last Tuesday evening of every month to share stories and to showcase our most interesting finds. The local Finds Liaison Officer (FLO) from the Portable Antiquities Scheme regularly attends to formally record those finds of particular significance.

Membership

The Bloxwich Research and Metal Detector Club welcome responsible members of all ages and all levels of experience.

The cost of annual membership in 2024 is as follows:

  • £25 for new adult members
  • £7 for new junior members (must be accompanied by an adult member)
  • £15 for adult membership renewals
  • £5 for junior membership renewals

Membership runs for the calendar year.

Included within the cost of membership is £10,000,000 Public Liability Insurance provided by the Association for Metal Detecting Sport (AMDS). We insist on this as we need to ensure that  each and every one of our members have adequate insurance cover on all club digs as insisted on by our land owners.

Membership numbers are limited to a maximum of 120. Unfortunately we are unable to accept new membership applications at the moment. However, if you are interested in joining please contact us and we will add you to our short waiting list and contact you as soon as a place becomes available.

Charity

The Bloxwich Research and Metal Detector Club actively support the Addington Fund – a specialist farming and rural charity who provide disaster relief and houses for farming families in England and Wales who fund themselves having to leave the industry and therefore their home, through no fault of their own.

Each year our club and membership do what we can to support such a worthy cause. Find out more about The Addington Fund >

Club Digs

We have excellent relationships with a good number of farmers and landowners and therefore have access to a sizable bank of land across the whole of the West Midlands and Staffordshire.

We detect on both pasture and arable land.

Much of our land has never been detected on before and so it is not until we get there that we find out what it holds.

Our digs take place every Sunday and usually the same fields are also available to detect on the following Wednesday. Digs start at 9am and everyone must be off the fields by 4pm.

The cost for each dig is usually £10 per person – we are a not for profit club but these days it’s a highly competitive hobby and so we have to compensate our land owners fairly.

We have a strict code of practice and insist that everyone detects with a finds pouch, removes ALL trash and fills in holes carefully and neatly (we insist on a bag / sheet / tray when digging on pasture) to ensure our reputation (and that of the sport) is upheld.

We are proud of the friendly nature of the club … for any novice there is always someone there to help you and to identify those mystery finds.

We are not always sure of which fields we will be able to detect on very far in advance so we email out details of and directions to the dig directly to all members towards the end of each week.

Social

The club meet socially at 7:30pm on the last Tuesday of each month at Pelsall Cricket and Sports Club, Walsall Rd, Pelsall, Walsall WS3 4BP.

These informal meetings give the club chance to update the members on finances, activities and plans, the local Finds Liaison Officer attends quarterly to register and record finds and we also have the occasional interesting / educational talk relating to our hobby. We also run a “finds of the month” competition (leading to trophies each year) and a charity raffle.

As well as a monthly meeting the club also run an active Facebook page … a closed group to members only where we can share photos and tales of our finds.
